Dillon Family Dentistry is proud to announce a Halloween candy buy-back.
Yup, we are trying a special post-Halloween event on Thursday, November 1st.

What we are doing is giving kids a dollar for every pound of candy they bring in, so it’s not a complete rip-off for the kids. (BTW, I’m not expecting too many of the kids being really excited about the program.) We also have a few extra treats for the kids when they come in to turn in their candy.

As a dentist I am happy to help reduce the amount of Halloween candy kids have, especially taking into consideration that decay is starting to become an increasing problem again. As you might remember from my earlier blogs tooth decay is on the rise for the first time in recorded history. This is just one way of us helping the kids around Bryn Mawr from contributing to that stat. Increased exposure to candy, soda and sports drinks and the prevalence of bottled, filtered and other unfluoridated water have led us in this bad direction.

As a parent I am happy to offer other parents a way to get rid of some of the ‘extra’ candy that their kids might have plundered in their Halloween adventures. I know what a problem that the sugary treats can do for their health in general including contributions to obesity and juvenile diabetes.

What are we going to do with all of that candy?

Well, I’m glad you asked. We are sending the candy to our troops overseas. Yes, we will see that they get toothbrushes and toothpastes as well so they don’t have any dental problems.

Help us help your kids and give our troops a special treat this year going into the Holiday season. The candy must be unopened and if your child would like to include a note to go along with the candy we a re sure that that will be equally appreciated.
