Teeth whitening is a very popular cosmetic procedure done by dentists. Have you tried different products that claim to help whiten your teeth and found them not giving you the results you were looking for? Unfortunately, this seems to be the case for most people. Now you may be wondering if your local dentist offers teeth whitening procedures.
Here at Dillon Family Dentistry, we offer Zoom teeth whitening. Continue reading to learn more about this procedure and what to expect.
What Is Zoom?
Zoom is a bleaching process that dentists use to help patients get their desired shade of teeth. The gel used in this process is a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel.
This procedure is not only effective, but it is safe and not time-consuming!
What to Expect
Before your teeth whitening procedure, a consultation must take place to make sure you are a good candidate for Zoom.
Once the dentist decides that you are okay to receive this procedure, a cleaning may be recommended, so all the plaque is off of your teeth. This makes the whitening process more effective.
Fitting Trays and Choosing Gel
You will wear fitting trays at home, so making sure the trays accurately fit your teeth is important. We do so by getting impressions of your teeth. You will then choose from different whitening gels for your trays.
Once this is complete, your gums and lips will have covering over them, showing only your teeth.
Zoom Gel and Light Applied
The Zoom gel is then placed on your teeth. Once the front surfaces of your teeth are covered, light is then placed over your teeth. This light helps activate the gel and clear up any discoloration you have.
The gel stays on for 20 minutes, and then this process is repeated 3-4 times.
Once this process is complete, another gel will then be placed on your teeth. Tooth sensitivity is a common side effect, so this gel will help reduce that.
Aftercare
The trays you receive are wearable at home and help keep your teeth the desired shade.
Avoiding drinks and foods that can cause discoloration will help you maintain your whitened teeth.
Some foods and drinks to avoid:
- Tea
- Coffee
- Berries
- Sauces
Maintaining proper oral hygiene and dental care as well is key to keeping your teeth whitened.
Any additional instructions will be given to you after the procedure.
